Bouncing back when life throws you too many challenges….

It would be great if life had only ups and no downs, but life just isn’t like that and this blog is for all of you going through challenging times at the moment.

It’s all about resilience and boosting your resilience. It’s about supporting you to survive and thrive no matter what life throws at you.

Most if not all of us have faced lots of challenges in life, but what makes some flourish and others flounder? Resilience is key – luckily its something we can all grow and nurture within us when we know how.

Here are some ways to boost your resilience to weather life’s storms.

  • Bring meaning and purpose to the challenging times. There are always different ways of looking at things that happen to us, it can be easier to fall into the victim story of blame or get stuck in the hurt and pain. If you were looking at the challenges you have been through as opportunities to grow and evolve what would the gifts be? By changing how we view bad things that come our way it can help us be more resilient.
  • Reflect on what you’ve survived so far in life. What skills did you use? What strengths did you grow? These are all still within you waiting for the next time to be called forth. It can really help knowing we have got through and survived a lot already. Write down any strengths you’ve pulled on in hard times or if you’re struggling to think, ask a close friend.
  • Bring more positivity into your day. Positive psychology research shows that by bringing more positive emotion into our day through the small things we can boost our resilience bank. What ways can you bring more feel good feelings through into your day? Perhaps it’s getting up slightly earlier to have a soak in a bath or go for a run or perhaps it’s getting a coffee from your favourite café or listening to a song that lifts your soul, what ever brings positive feelings more into your day do more of it.

Know that life has peaks and troughs and the bad times make the sweet times much much sweeter. It gives perspective and a chance appreciate what we are made of- which is a lot more than we give ourselves credit for.
